Most of us spend our lives cultivating a spirit of comparison. This firstly breeds jealously, then more importantly, condemnation. It is this very attitude that keeps us from remembering how blessed we really are to be living in where we are now. The other more fundamental attitude we should be developing should be the spirit of contentment.
In Bhutan, the people used to be very happy and satisfied with their lives. They believed that they had a good life, complete with a good livelihood, and a good king which loved them and took care of them. However, when television came in the country, they began to wonder why they did not have what others in the world was having. In their spirit of comparison, they forgot that they used to have no lack!
Similarly, we should never forget that we used to lack but now with our Saviour, we should want nothing more than what we already need. In fact if we really want more, the things that we should be asking for is wisdom and compassion, together with power to maintain our holiness in this sinful world today.
May God bless you.
