On the other side of the cross:
As Christians we often feel that once we have sinned or fallen short, we have this spirit of self-condemnation. Even though we may not have committed grievous sins, sometimes we feel this way due to slacking of quiet time or prayer,
This makes us feel unworthy of God's love and we shun away from Him. But He loves us so much that we no longer need to feel condemned. He forgives us and gives us a love feast instead. The story of the prodigal son, often repeated is the best representation of our situation.
Then we feel somehow less condemned and more righteous when we have done a lot for God or even for not having skipped prayer or quiet time. Sometimes we feel even more holy if we have sacrificed for Him. Thus, when we come to the cross we come with the spirit of self righteousness. This is an insult to the cross. We do not need to feel anymore right or more holy to come to the cross. We just need to come, and God will do the rest.
Neither self righteousness nor self condemnation will allow us to experience Him fully.
Having just knowledge of Christ is not enough. Knowing Him (not just knowing about Him) and having a relationship with Him is what we must desire.
Nothing you can do can make Him love you more.
And nothing that you’ve done can make Him close the door.
Because of His great love, He gave his only son,
Everything was done, so you would come.
